Today, I would like to share with you one of the chakras of Vedic astrology which is "Tara Chakra".

You would have a heard this Sanskrit shloka during the rituals in the ceremonies:

तदेव लग्नं सुदिनं तदेव ताराबलं चंद्रबलं तदेव।

विद्या बलं दैवबलं तदेव लक्ष्मीपतेः तेंघ्रिऽयुगं स्मरामि॥

Meaning: This lagna (ascendant) is truly the finest, an auspicious day blessed with the positive strength of stars (nakshatras) and the Moon. It carries the wisdom of knowledge and the divine grace bestowed by celestial forces, especially when your thoughts rest at the feet of Lakshmipati, the Lord Vishnu.

In this shloka, you would recognize a term called Tara Bala which means the strength of nakshatras.

In this article, we will study about how we can calculate the Tara Bala based on "Tara Chakra".

The study will help you to understand:

  • How we can calculate Tara Bala from Tara Chakra?
  • How it will help us in answering the queries (Prashna)
Calculation of Tara Bala:

Tara Chakra
Group Group Name Nakshatras Prediction
1 Janm Tara Ashwini Magha Mula Benefic
2 Sampat Tara Bharani Purva Phalguni Purva Ashadha Prosperity
3 Vipat Tara Krittika Uttara Phalguni Uttara Ashadha Obstacles
4 Kshema Tara Rohini Hasta Shravan Gains
5 Pratyak Tara Mrugshira Chitra Dhanishtha Destruction
6 Sadhaka Tara Ardra Swati Shatbhisha Success
7 Vadha Tara Punarvasu Vishakha Purva Bhadrapada Death
8 Mitra Tara Pushya Anuradha Uttara Bhadrapada Benefic
9 Adhi Mitra Tara Ashlesha Jyeshtha Revati Prosperity

In Tara Chakra (as shown above), the 27 Nakshatras are divided into nine groups consisting of three Nakshatras each. The first group is "Janma Nakshatra'. Nakshatra in which Moon is at the time of birth or query is called as 'Janma Nakshatra'.

After first 9 Nakshatras, the 10th Nakshatra again belongs to Janma Nakshatra group. Then the 19th Nakshatra belongs to this group.

From the above table, we can see that 3rd, 5th & 7th groups are inauspicious and could provide negative results like destruction and delays.

Tara Chakra will be different for different people because the Janma Nakshatra will be the first nakshatra from which the table will begin and the groups will be based on the same.

For more details on Navtara, read this articleMeaning of Nav Taras in Vedic Astrology

For Example: If your Janma nakshatra is Rohini then the Tara Chakra will be as follows:

Group Group Name Nakshatras Prediction
1 Janm Tara Rohini Hasta Shravan Benefic
2 Sampat Tara Mrugshira Chitra Dhanishtha Prosperity
3 Vipat Tara Ardra Swati Shatbhisha Obstacles
4 Kshema Tara Punarvasu Vishakha Purva Bhadrapada Gains
5 Pratyak Tara Pushya Anuradha Uttara Bhadrapada Destruction
6 Sadhaka Tara Ashlesha Jyeshtha Revati Success
7 Vadha Tara Magha Mula Ashwini Death
8 Mitra Tara Purva Phalguni Purva Ashadha Bharani Benefic
9 Adhi Mitra Tara Uttara Phalguni Uttara Ashadha Krittika Prosperity
Based on the above table, if you want to accomplish any important task and your Janm Nakshatra is Rohini, then the nakshatras belonging to 3rd 5th & 7th groups should be avoided.

Answering Queries:

As you are aware that for answering the queries, we prepare the Prashna Kundli based on the Date. Time & Place of Prashna.

  • The nakshatra in which the Lagnesh (Lord of Ascendant) is in at the time of query becomes the Janma Nakshatra.
  • Now, Look at the Bhava which is related to the Prashna and the nakshatra in which the Lord of that Bhava (Karyesh) is in at the time of query.
  • Now see the table and look where the nakshatra of Karyesh is located.
  • If the Karyesh nakshatra is located in auspicious groups, the outcome will be positive. If the Karyesh nakshatra is located in 3rd, 5th & 7th groups, then the result will be negative.
To conclude, Tara chakra is not limited only to the above concepts rather it can be utilized in various ways. Even the Traditional Astrologers give a great importance to Tara Chakra.
